Bruce Shapiro has created an algorhythmic structure (whose shape depends on an IT programme written by the artist), Quercus, using a carbon dioxide gas laser governed by numerical control. The form of the design alludes to the leaves of the oak, a tree that is symbolical both in the Basque Country and in Minnesota, the artist’s hometown.
